OKC Thunder to Have a Slam Dunk Contest Participant... but it isn't KD | January

The 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contestant is expected to have a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder participating, although it is not the one I suggested in my previous article. The official announcement will come on Thursday on TNT, which will also air the Thunder's game against the Dallas Mavericks, but do not hold your breath waiting to hear Kevin Durant's name called.

It is being reported that Serge Ibaka will represent the Thunder in the contest that takes place the night before the All-Star game. Joining him will be Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks, JaVale McGee of the Washington Wizards and exciting rookie Blake Griifin of the Los Angeles Clippers.

While it may not be the same as it could have been with the likes of Durant, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Vince Carter, it will be exciting nonetheless. It will be great to see Ibaka, as well as former Oklahoma University standout Griffin. Nothing is for certain, as Jennings has not played since the middle of December, although he is expected to return to action within the next few weeks.

We all know about Ibaka, and you have undoubtedly seen Griffin on the highlight reel of almost every SportsCenter. McGee will be interesting to see as a 7 footer, as he could somewhat resemble Dwight Howard in the contest.

The contest is part of All-Star weekend set for Saturday, February 19 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
